Space Camp: Day 3

Good evening, families! Today was another busy day at camp. Today many of the groups were able to ride the MAT and Five Degrees of Freedom simulators. Groups were also able to have their mission! For their first mission, students were in charge of a moon mission. They needed to blast off into space and orbit the moon. While orbiting, astronauts would fly to the surface of the moon to create a solar panel for the space station on the moon. Once their solar panel was complete, they would meet other astronauts in the space station. These astronauts had been living on the moon for some time, so it was their time to return to Earth. They switched roles and became the astronauts that boarded the spacecraft orbiting Moon for a return trip home. During the mission, each child is assigned a role. They may work on Earth in the control room. If assigned here, students talk to pilots and astronauts conducting experiments in space. They also keep track of take offs and landings (including those on the moon). Other students work as pilots of the capsule. They are in charge of flying to the moon and continue around in its orbit until the astronauts are able to exit the spacecraft. They are also responsible for the return flight to Earth. As astronauts, the children were able to simulate the moon's gravity and create a solar panel. As scientists, students were able to conduct a science experiment on the moon's (future) space station. It was another excellent day at camp! The kids reported that Space Shot is AWESOME and they love the missions. :) Have a great night! Leslie
